Dr. Jessica deSouza has been practicing dentistry for 10 years. She attended Yale University and obtained a B.A in Economics. While in university, she interned in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette (DLJ). She continued on to work as financial analyst at DLJ in the Technology Investment Banking Group. Dr. deSouza completed a Post Baccalaureate at Columbia University and obtained a DDS at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. She also completed a General Practice Residency at Veteran’s Administration Brooklyn Hospital. She is a member of the American Dental Society and NYS Dental Association. She participates with Osseoinstitute Study Club, Bayside Periodontics Study Club, and Women to Women Dentists. Dr. deSouza also volunteers with God’s Love We Deliver, Jan Hus Urban Outreach Center and Dental Lifeline.

Laser whitening and Zoom whitening is offered at JDental as a way to quickly and affordably whiten teeth by up to 10 shades. Laser whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure used to brighten teeth. This procedure uses lasers/heat lamps to speed up the teeth bleaching process. First, dentists cover your gums and soft tissue with gauze and your lips with SPF lotion to protect these fragile areas from damage. Next, a bleaching gel with hydrogen peroxide is placed on the front of your teeth. When the heat is placed on your teeth it activates the hydrogen peroxide in the bleaching gel, removing stains from the enamel. In just an hour you will leave our office with noticeably whiter and brighter teeth. The typical procedure applies heat in the form of lasers or a lamp to your teeth in three fifteen minute sessions. This non-invasive procedure will leave you feeling more confident in your smile and in yourself! You will see immediate results with no needles or incisions- giving you instant confidence!

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped “caps” placed over a broken, chipped, or decayed tooth to restore the shae, size, strength, and appearance of the tooth. Dental crowns are used to protect weak teeth, support dental bridges, hold teeth with large fillings in place, cover misshapen or discolored teeth, or to change the appearance of your smile cosmetically. During the procedure, our dentists will take X-Rays and examine the tooth receiving the crown. The tooth may have to be shaved down or built up to be an appropriate size to receive the crown. After scans are taken, your dentist will send them to the lab so they can produce a permanent crown made of porcelain-fused-to-metal, metal, ceramic, or porcelain crown. The type of crown you chose depends on both the practical and cosmetic function they serve and options can be further discussed with any JDental staff member. While you wait, a temporary crown made of acrylic or stainless steel to cover and protect the tooth while you wait for the permanent crown. Then, the permanent crown is placed with cement and your smile is restored. Dental crowns last between 5 and 15 years and can be manufactured to give you an almost seamless appearance!

First, your teeth are prepared by your JDental professional. This includes identifying the shade of the teeth before the treatment, coating the lips with a protective SPF lotion, and placing cotton rolls under the lips to protect the mouth and gums from the bleaching gel. Once the protective coating is placed, your dentist will apply the bleaching gel to the front of your teeth. A light or laser is then placed over your teeth to activate the bleaching process. Laser teeth whitening is a specific laser whitening procedure. Your JDental professional will use the hydrogen peroxide gel as well as the Biolase Epic Diode Laser. The whitening gel contains 45% hydrogen peroxide which is activated and broken down by the laser; as the hydrogen peroxide breaks down, oxygen enters the tooth to bleach the stained enamel. Laser teeth whitening is a great way to see immediate whitening results! In about an hour, your teeth will be up to 4-6 shades brighter and with multiple sessions you can see a difference by up to 10 shades. This type of teeth whitening is easy, non invasive, requires no needles, and leaves a long lasting result.
