About Dr. Jessica deSouza

Founder · JDental Midtown Manhattan

Dr. Jessica deSouza brings something unusual to her dental practice: a background in finance.

She started at Yale studying economics, interned in mergers and acquisitions at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, and went on to work as a financial analyst in DLJ’s Technology Investment Banking Group. By every conventional measure, she was on track for a long career on Wall Street. Then she walked away from it.

Dr. deSouza

From Wall Street to Dentistry

The decision wasn’t impulsive. It was the result of paying attention to what actually engaged her, day after day, and being honest about the answer. The work she found most meaningful wasn’t transactional — it was the kind that left someone better off in a way they could feel. So she did something most people only talk about: she started over.

Training & Residency

A post-baccalaureate at Columbia. A DDS at Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. A general practice residency at the Veterans Administration Brooklyn Hospital, where she treated patients whose dental neglect had real consequences — not cosmetic ones, but pain, infection, and shame they’d carried for years. That experience shaped how she practices today.

JDental & The Patients Who Find Her

JDental opened in Midtown Manhattan in 2014. The patients who find her tend to share a profile: people who are precise about their work and want the same precision from their dentist. Finance professionals from the surrounding 10017 offices. Performers and on-camera talent who depend on their smile professionally. Patients who’ve had bad dental experiences elsewhere and arrive cautious. They stay because Dr. deSouza approaches dentistry the way she once approached financial analysis — methodically, with a strong opinion about what’s worth doing and what isn’t.

A Candid Clinical Philosophy

That opinion matters. Modern dentistry offers more options than most patients realize, and not every option is right for every mouth. Dr. deSouza is candid about which materials she trusts, which procedures she thinks are oversold, and when the conservative answer is the right one. Patients who want to be talked through their choices — rather than handed a treatment plan — find that approach refreshing.

Specialties, Memberships & Community

Her clinical interests center on cosmetic and restorative work: dental crowns in high-translucency zirconia and lithium disilicate, Invisalign for adults, laser whitening, and laser bacterial reduction as part of routine hygiene.

She is a member of the American Dental Association and the New York State Dental Association, and participates in the Osseointegration Study Club, the Bayside Periodontics Study Club, and Women Dentists Connect.

Outside the practice, she volunteers with God’s Love We Deliver, the Jan Hus Urban Outreach Center, and Dental Lifeline Network.

“I’ve always believed a confident smile is one of the most valuable things a person can have — and helping someone find theirs is why I do this work.”

— Dr. Jessica deSouza

Twelve years into private practice, Dr. deSouza continues to welcome new patients to JDental — from longtime Midtown professionals to those simply looking for a dentist who listens. Every visit begins with a conversation, not a treatment plan.
