Implant dentistry is the practice of installing a surgical fixture in the jawbone for 3 to 6 months. They act as a root replacement for a missing tooth. The aim of implant dentistry is to restore both the function and aesthetics of your teeth.

Main Facts about our Implant Dentistry in NYC

One of the key advantages of implant dentistry over other tooth replacement options is that it avoids the sunken appearance associated with missing teeth. Since the implants are mounted in the jawbone, they help to maintain the fullness and contours of the face by preserving the supporting bone, much like the natural root of the tooth. Dental implants are the best way to replace missing teeth and to flaunt a stunning smile. They do not only look like real teeth, they also function like it. It is also often compared with the dental bridge. A dental bridge is another recommended way to replace a missing tooth, but it can only last for up to 10 years. Teeth implants last a lifetime. In comparison, dental implants look and work much more like natural teeth compared to other forms of replacement options. Unlike the dental bridge, which is reinforced by surrounding teeth, dental implants stand alone without impacting other teeth. Dental implants do not need extra care other than daily cleaning, flossing, and regular visits to see the implant dentist.

For those who are missing all of their teeth, dentists recommend two options: implant dentures or full-mouth dental implants. Unlike the conventional denture which can sometimes slip out of place, an implant denture is a form of teeth replacement which is more stable and versatile. Also called overdenture, an implant denture can be fixed or removable, depending on your preference. On the other hand, a full-mouth dental implant is an implant-supported full bridge of teeth. Denture implants can be costly, but it has a lot of benefits. Compared to the traditional denture, it is more stable. You won’t worry that it may slip while you are having a conversation during dinner with friends or family. Denture implants improve chewing ability especially for older people. Whichever implant you choose, JDental is here to help you. Dr Jessica DeSouza is a very talented and dedicated dentist who can attend to any of your dental needs. Call us for an appointment and get ready to be served with the best dental care in New York City.

The tooth implant procedure will begin with a free dentistry consultation. Dr. Jessica DeSouza, our expert implant dentist, will examine your jaw and gums and see whether a tooth implant would be helpful to you. If your jawbone has an appropriate base for the titanium posts that will be anchored to it, you might be a good candidate for implant treatment. Age is not an obstacle to implant dentistry; in fact, people of all ages are choosing dental implants to replace their teeth. If you are a successful candidate for teeth implants, the next step is the operation to position the titanium implant in the jawbone. Sometimes an actual infected tooth is still present at the dental implant site, and the tooth will need to be removed and bone graft will need to be inserted. This is because when you lose a tooth, the bone behind it starts to deteriorate, too. You need enough bone to support the post to successfully get a tooth implant. So, depending on how long your tooth has been missing, you may not have enough bone left. If your tooth is removed in our clinic, we will help you repair your bone with a bone graft. This technique uses bone graft material to build up adequate bone structure for a dental implant. The best part of the whole dental implant treatment is that all of these procedures can always be performed at JDental! Our resident implant dentist is qualified to prepare, position, and restore your smile with teeth implants. However, in certain cases, when enough bone is present, the damaged tooth can be removed and the implant can be inserted at the same time. The entire implant procedure takes 1 to 2 hours, and the healing time is 3 to 6 months.

Dental implant surgery is not painful. You will be receiving a local anesthesia prior to the surgery. It will numb down your nerves, so you wouldn’t feel any pain. Our resident implant dentist will not start the surgery until your tooth area is completely numb. You may feel slight pressure at times, but it won’t cause you any discomfort. For patients who have anxiety with dental procedures, we provide oral sedation.

Dental bone graft is a treatment that covers and regenerates missing bones and can also preserve correct facial contours. Facial sagging may be an undesirable result of bone deterioration due to missing teeth. This is where the lower third of the face begins to sag, steadily closing the gap between the tip of the nose and the jaw. Changes may include extra lines around the jaw, thinning lashes, and a more pointed chin, making a person appear far older than his or her true age. A dental bone graft can help solve facial sagging. It creates a solid base for dental implants. Generally speaking, recovery time after dental bone graft can be anywhere from two weeks to more than two months. If a patient needs to undergo dental implant surgery, they may have to wait before the bone graft is mixed with the bones that are already in the mouth. It normally takes a couple of months.

Usually, basic dental care plans do not include dental implant surgery. This is because implant cost can be really expensive. You may need to look at the coverage of cosmetic dental treatments that cover a component of dental implants. Your dental implant insurance coverage may be 50 percent of the bill, which means that the insurance pays half of the cost of the surgery.

Dr. deSouza is an artist! She cares deeply about her patients and her work. She knows that the best billboard is your smile and she takes pride in creating the best billboards in New York City. A few years ago she rebuilt a severely eroded tooth. I’ve since moved to Los Angeles and every dentist I see out here marvels at her work. 7 years and it’s still holding up with no pain or signs of erosion. And it looks great too! That’s art. Two things I miss about NYC. It’s energy and Jessica DeSouza DDS.
